Vice President

La Rocca

John La Rocca, as Vice President of The Rensselaerville Institute, has helped hundreds of organizations across the country and in Canada to understand and implement tools and techniques of outcome thinking and practice.  His strengths come from an ability to translate lessons and learnings from a 35 year tenure at The Rensselaerville Institute, known nationally as “the think tank with muddy boots.”

John’s customers have included both public and private entities, nonprofit organizations and foundations and government, all interested in using outcome approaches.  He has directed projects with The Clark Foundation; The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority; the Ministry of Housing, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; United Way organizations in Nashville, Buffalo, Schenectady, Corning and Albany (New York), Boston, and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada; the Department of Environmental Quality in Washington State; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. He is currently delivering a series of workshops around the country for The Foundation Center. John is equally skilled at assisting both investors (funders) and implementing groups (often nonprofits) to turn theory into practice that gets results.

Representative projects include:

    • Real Time Organizational Change project with San Francisco Bay Area LISC and 8 Bay Area community development corporations
    •  “Outcome Framework Conversions” with Santa Barbara County Health Care Services, the Staten Island Foundation, and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality – Water Quality Department
    • Developing an “industry blueprint” for The Ceramic Association of New York and a strategic map to implement the “blueprint”
    • Training sessions on outcomes for the National Association of Community Action Agencies
    • Retreat facilitations for the N.Y. State Optometric Association, the N.Y. State Medical Equipment Suppliers and the N.Y. State Developmental Disabilities Association
    • Strategic Mapping projects for the Fairfield County Community Foundation and the Conservation Trust for North Carolina
    • Numerous public briefings, keynote programs, training sessions for foundations, nonprofit groups and membership associations.

John lives in rural upstate New York with his wife Nancy – who often appears in his examples and stories. He fancies himself as a fly fisherman.
