Clyde E. Rankin, III

Clyde E. Rankin, III has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rensselaerville Institute since 2001, and a Board member since 1989.

Mr. Rankin is a member of the Baker & McKenzie’s Global Corporate & Securities Practice Group in the New York office. Mr. Rankin advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, privatizations, licensing and distribution agreements, joint venture agreements and project finance. For the past several years, he has represented U.S. companies investing in the Russian Federation and Eastern and Central Europe, as well as Eastern and Central European governments in the privatization of state-owned enterprises. Mr. Rankin counsels clients extensively on renewable energy projects in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Rankin came to Baker & McKenzie from Coudert Brothers LLP, where he served as the ninth Chairman of that firm.

Since 1991, Mr. Rankin has been a member of Columbia Law School’s Board of Visitors and chairs its International Law Committee. Mr. Rankin was chair of Princeton University’s Alumni Council from 2003 to 2005. He has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations since 1996. Since 1999, Mr. Rankin has been a member of the Board of Trustees of CEC ArtsLink, Inc., and he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Bryant Park Management Corporation since 1995. Since 2001, Mr. Rankin has been an Executive Board member of the Project for Ethnic Relations.

In February of 2002, Mr. Rankin was a Panelist on the Directors’ Roundtable entitled "Mergers and Acquisitions in Western Europe." In June 2003, Mr. Rankin was a presenter at the Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, Austria. His presentation was later published under the title “United States Corporate Governance: Implications for Foreign Issuers” in the Comparative Law Yearbook (2003).

Mr. Rankin was named one of the Best Lawyers in America in 2006.
