The Guggenheim Pavilion and Gallery were donated in 1971 to the Rensselaerville Institute by The Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation, when their grandson, Oscar S. Straus II, was Chairman of the Institute’s Board of Trustees.

The Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation is the oldest of the five Guggenheim Foundations and is also responsible for such diverse activities as the Guggenheim Fellows program, the Charles A. Lindbergh good will tour of the Americas in the “Spirit of St. Louis” after his flight to Paris, for the early funding of Robert Goddard’s rocket research, for the bandshell in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center, New York City and many other important philanthropic activities.

Recently working with the Town Supervisor, the Town of Rensselaerville and the Institute started a community calendar listing the rich variety of programs, musical events, and other activities in our community.

In addition to founding the Institute, the Huyck family also established the Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station, which surrounds the Institute campus and adds so much to the richness of the experience of visiting the Institute and staying at the Meeting Center.
